45TH AFEAF INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE, AN EXAMPLE OF A LEGACY
Gijón was the venue of the 45th AFEAF International Conference, ASSOCIATION FRANÇAISE POUR L’ÉTUDE DE L’AGE DU FER, held on 13 to 15 May 2021 as an in-person and online event.
The AFEAF was established in 1983 by researchers from various institutions. It promotes knowledge about this period in history. The association holds a national conference every year in France to discuss the most current research on the Iron Age. It also organises an international conference every four years.
The conference entitled “The Europe of Raw Materials in the 1st Millennium BCE. Exploitation, Transformation and Dissemination” brought together archaeologists who debated and learnt about the Asturian sites.
To mark this event, the creative media company Fase Extra Transmedia, a member of the Gijón Convention Bureau, produced a documentary on the Iron Age in Asturias in English and French. An example of a legacy understood as a contribution to knowledge beyond the mere celebration of the event in Gijón.
