The “Gijón Ambassador” distinction that is granted every year by the Club de Empresas de Turismo de Negocios, has been granted this year, 2016, to the Professor of the University of Oviedo and Director of the Mathematics Department, Pedro Alonso Velazquez.
Over the last seven years, Gijón has hosted several meetings related to Pedro and the Mathematics Department of the University of Gijón: the XVII Hispano- French School on numerical simulation in Physics and Engineering held in 2016, the II Workshop in High Performance Computing on Parallel and Heterogeneous Architectures in 2011 or the 9th International Conference on Computational and Mathematical Methods in Science and Engineering (CMMSE) held in 2009.
