ASTURIAS CELEBRATES GLOBAL MEETINGS INDUSTRY DAY 2018

Professionals of Business Tourism in Asturias had an important appointment today: the celebration of Global Meetings Industry Day 2018, which for the first time has been organized jointly by the three professional MICE associations in Asturias.

Avilés Club de Empresas, Oviedo Congresos and Club de Empresas de Turismo de Negocios prepared a meeting to highlight the impact that Business Tourism has on businesses and destinations. Financial, technological, social and knowledge-related impact.

The ceremony took place at the premises of Fernando Alonso Museum and Sports Complex, and attendees were welcomed by the representatives of the three Asturian associations.

First, Diego Ballina (Legal Secretary of the Governing Board of Gijón City Council) explained the main challenges and opportunities of the new Law on Public Procurement and clarified the doubts raised by the attendees.

After the coffee break, there was a panel on “The Corporate Client” with Patricia Folgueras (Head of Business Development at thyssenkrupp Elevator Innovation Centre), Fernando Sánchez-Mayoral (Global Director Tradeshows at SAP SE and Vice-President at Event Managers Association Spain), Erik Sørensen (International Development Manager at beon.Worldwide) and Joan Carles Domènech (CEO & Strategic-Creative Director at Miss & Mister Meet), and chaired by Carolina García (Coordinator of Gijón Convention Bureau). They all raised, contributed and discussed different aspects related to corporate events, which allowed us to collate different points of view, both from corporate clients and event agencies.

The discussion and training part of the day was closed by Mar Salmerón (Head of the Commercial and Tourism Strategy Service of the Principality of Asturias). 

Then, the attendees had the opportunity to take a guided tour to the exhibition area at Fernando Alonso Museum and enjoy a cocktail and typical Asturian cuisine.
